That is true, but I don’t think so
in this case. I still think it is a
conflict. 95% of the time, when I am batting my head
against the wall over a problem and achieving nothing other than developing a
heck of a headache, I am making the problem more complicated than what it is. The other 5% of the time, I have hosed
things so bad assuming the problem is complicated, that the simplest thing to
do is reset to factory defaults and start over. J Substitution is a basic troubleshooting
technique that can eliminate or condemn components very quickly. Substituting the Laptop and having it work
cleared the radio. Swapping IPs
cleared both computers. OK, where
are we at. The machines are OK, the
radio is OK. What didn’t work
when swapped around? The IP of the
PC didn’t. It barfed in both
computers. He could not surf when
that IP was active on the machine he was trying to surf with. Since the most common
reason for an IP to barf that I have run across is an IP conflict or duplicate
IPs, that is the logical place for me to start and is where I would look first. I could, of course be wrong. I have been wrong before and will undoubtedly
be wrong again. The most notable
time I was wrong was a few years back when I was certain that I had made a
mistake, but on further examination I discovered that I had not. J Kevin B. Proctor Customer Service Internet and

Sully -----Original Message----- Come on,
everyone. Re-read his original message. It’s something to do
with the IP assigned to the PC. He stated that the laptop that would pass
traffic originally would not pass traffic when the IP was changed to that of
the PC. This sounds like an IP conflict to me. There are other
things that could cause it, but it isn’t the radio in this case.
The radio works. He proved that by hooking his laptop to it and surfing.
It has to be something to do with that IP address, be it a conflict, incorrect
setting in a router or server or something similar. That IP barfs in two
different machines which clears the machines. Find what’s screwy
about the IP and you have found the problem. Let’s
all remember to apply the KISS method and not make things more complicated than
they are. Kevin B.

+1-303-371-8158 800-423-8018 -----Original Message----- How long after setting the equipment
up and leaving it alone does it fail ? Is timing fairly
consistent for the same pc ? Could it be that during setup the
client pc is set to an appropriate IP address for the network which allows
traffic to pass thro clients AB (is it only ABs and not APs that are
"locking"?). At some stage later (temp loss of network
connection, dhcp lease expiry etc), the clients pc requires a dhcp lease
renewal and cant see the dhcp server ? Client pc (depending on setup)
might then have no IP address set and be unable to talk to anything. The
AB will not pass dhcp to client if dhcp server is not set to respond in
broadcast mode, not unicast, for BootP. AP would not have this prob -
discussed on this forum in some detail a few weeks ago. If this is so, could it be its not a
sB prob but a dhcp server issue (sB can't reproduce it 'cos they've got a
properly configured dhcp setup) ? For instance, Suse Linux dhcp ootb does
not support BootP and so will not properly support clients on the ethernet side
of a AB without config changes (range dynamic-bootp). I have seen
other "embedded" dhcp servers wich don't default to this too.
Aramiska Satellite Arc doesn't and can't be configured to. Netscreen 5XP
firewall does and works well. bw
