Lets start the easy way, shall we? :)

Modify the SendMessage example and ask it to provide a status report.
Run it to send the message and leave it running (it will say
"sleeping..." blah blah). At some time after a few minutes you should
see the alert that a new message has been received. Do you see this
behaviour?
