Thanks for the suggestion, but I already reset it around once a week. I use Onyx but it does the same as is mentioned in the article.
Within a few days, the duplicates/delays are back again.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of ways Launch Services can get 
confused (I've had periods where I had double duplicates of 
everything) so I would look into resetting that before you get 
drowned in scripting.

Personally I would reset it and see if the problem repeats
