True enough, but those 69 pilots likely came out of the 101 pilot open class pool. So the real question is how many pilots flew JUST 2M and what would be the result of NOT having 2M? In other words, how people are flying it solely because it is there and fills the void in the week?? If 2M was first or last in the week and not sandwiched into the middle, what would happen?? All I know is that out here in my backwater corner of the world of soaring, I NEVER see 2M except at Visalia and Phoenix. People dust off their 2M just because it is there at the contest and they want to fly all they can. But even then, look at Visalia this year, 12 2M entries and 60 RES entries!! For me, I'd like to see RES get another day (or full day to itself) and open get another day (3 days total). Let 2M die the honorable death it has earned. Having said that, I will bring a 2M with me to Muncie this year simply because 2M is stuck in the middle of the week and I would rather fly than golf. Perhaps a simple poll on the LSF site asking the above questions would be interesting for use in planning the 2006 NATS. Or maybe have a survey at this year's NATS. 1 - Would you fly 2M if it was not in the middle of the week? Placed either the first 2 days or the last 2 days of the NATS week? 2 - Do you fly 2M on a regular basis away from the NATS? 3 - Would you like to see Open be a 3-day event at the cost of 2M? 4 - Would you like to see RES get a dedicated day at the cost of the 2M event? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bill Malvey RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
