not my decision, but here are some reasons i can think of...

licensing has become a bit of an issue recently. we are seeing more support
for linux from our software/hardware partners. nuke and arnold run faster
and more efficiently. i am not involved in maintenance of our systems but i
am also under the impression that is better. softimage is on its last leg,
there will be a time in the future where it won't matter.
