Let him know that he and his ISP could get in serious trouble if he spams 
someone whose address he scraped from a newsgroup.

I think there's no way to distinguish what he's doing from solicited opt-in 
(double opt-in, confirmed opt-in) with forged subscription requests.  If he 
follows through on his plan to send "We heard you might be interested in 
real estate -- to subscribe to my real estate list, please reply to this 
message and make sure the subject line contains the unique token that's 
there." then I think it's fine to leave him alone.  There are bigger fish 
to fry.
