Boot Problems with a Sun SparcStation 2

I am using Red Hat's Linux 6.0 Sparc Core software.  The hardware is a Sun SparcStation 2 with 64MB memory, ROM rev 2.6, floppy, 4 GB SCSI disk drive, and an external SCSI box with a Creative Labs CD in it.  I have built the floppy several times with different images offered on the distribution CD.  All efforts yield the following results.

While trying to boot with the command:

ok  boot floppy

I get the following results:

IDPROM:  Unknown format type!
Program Terminated

ok

This is my first time to work with Suns and my problems are likely operator error or perhaps old hardware problems.  The hardware self-test seem ok, but what do I know?  If anyone has any recommendations, I would be appreciative.  Thanks, Terry...
