Hi Eliza, I gave it a shot to try to build a Etch debian package, but I didn't have much success. I was using a package converter (alien) to make deb packages from rpm. It appears as if the versions of gcc are significantly different enough between the centos rpm I built and debian distro you use to make this approach a possibility. I don't know much about building deb packages directly(yet) so I can't simply build one for your platform.
