Design approach: 31 story high-rise building with 3 levels of below grade parking, 1 level mixed-use and 30 levels of residential living. Fire sprinklers installed are residential type fire sprinkler on the residential occupied floors only. As per the listing of the residential fire sprinkler and in relationship to the location to a heat source and without adding more heads in the project I designed the units using 175-degree heads throughout the residential occupied floor in the residential occupied units. I felt that this would not be an issue for the data sheets did not specify and for the ease of consistency of installation and future maintenance for the building.
Issue: Can 175-degree residential fire sprinkler be used throughout the residential occupancy in a high-rise building? Manufactures data sheets do not specify yes or no. These are residential fire sprinklers with a faster response time and different spray patterns as compared to standard (commercial) type fire sprinklers. I feel that this is where the confusions is with this issue. Can anyone help me out there to resolve this issue or am I at fault here with my approach. K.
