There was a device thought of, and patented, I believe,
by Russ Levitt and or Bob Caputo at the then TVA
in San Diego. This device uses a float switch in the
drum drip to send a message to the:
fire alarm supervisory signal, or
building maintenance staff
that it is time to drain the drum drip. Seemed to
work OK for all the Home Depots, TrueValue Hardware
and literally hundreds of other big-boxes they were
contracted for. Although I can see oxidation and
sedimentation becoming issues as the device
ages.

I think you can contact them through

We have a recently-installed dry system in a garage in Colorado. Would
like to know if we need to do any maintenance on the drum drips - is
there any sort of standard on how often these should be checked/drained,
if at all?
Thanks -
