Oooops. Typed faster than my brain again....in my last post, I meant
cClass I to be Class III and vice versa.

Sorry about that

Subject: RE: NFPA #14 and pressures

Quick thoughts....

First, for reasons that are more historical than understandable....the
fire service's primary attack lines these days are 1.75" which it turns
out uses 1.5" couplings. Why? Don't ask. It has a logical explanation
but it does not matter....it just is.

Second, talk to the local FD. Ask them what size connections they want
to have? Yep, I know that 14 says that if 1.5" is provided....blah blah
blah. But if the size of the connection is 1.5" to serve 1.75" FD
hose...is it really a Class 1 system or simply a Class III system with
threads to match that of the local FD which we are required to provide.

I have eliminated this issue many times by simply indicating on the
drawings that the system is designed as Class III but that reducers have
been added per the FD's request to match their threads and tactics.

Just my thought for today....now I am all out....time to go home.

And even if they find one, would you trust an
untrained person on the end of a hose with 100 psi discharge?
