We purchased the Windows version of Elite back in 2000. Not trusting a
new program, I did a thorough review of the first few calcs we did.
With a municipal supply (flow test) as the source and a fire pump, we
observed the program makes a strange "approximation". It takes the
residual pressure from the flow test and adds it directly to the rated
pressure of your pump, regardless of what the corresponding flow rates
are. We called their tech support and were told, "Lot's of AHJ's have
reviewed the program and they're OK with it".

I hope this was corrected, but we threw it in the trash and bought THE.
We've encountered a limitation with THE when trying to run multiple
sources, but it otherwise works fine for what we need.

It assigns the area of coverage for ALL heads in the remote area by
dividing the size by the number of heads. I quit looking at it as a
serious program at that point. Actually I heard they dropped their
hydraulic program. They are mechanical engineers and that is the
focus of their primary software.

As a stand alone (non-cad) program what else is out there? I am
aware of (and have used) THE hydraulic program.
