The use of bushing has been expanded in 13 to allow for future system modifications. It's somewhat limited by being placed under 8.15.19.2 (Piping to Sprinklers Below Ceilings) since many facilities are not using ceilings. This issue was originally pushed by Caputo (I think) and should be further addressed at the upcoming ROP meeting. How's that for a nudge?

Did any Forumites send in any proposals?

The best practices of the industry, should in my opinion include 1" outlets for all areas that are designed for tenant fit out. I really hate the 1/2" SSU heads 4" blow the deck and 15' AFF, on a 11/2x11/2x1/2 tee, when you know the finish ceiling will be somewhere between 9 and 14'. I know from asking that there are only two reasons for this practice, 1) Its cheaper and 2) it allows the contractor to charge more for the tenant fit out. Total life cycle costs may be a stretch for us to estimate for a sprinkler system, but Total installation costs should not. (Most AHJ's don't allow the heads to be added as a retrofit, with a 1/2" nipple to a 1x1/2 ell or such, they rightly believe that if the area was always intended to have a tenant fit out with the possibilities of a lower ceiling then that should have been allowed for in the original design for the space.)
