We finished our glycerin conversion this past week. All went fine with the exception of the expansion tank. I had some trouble getting it to hold 70 PSI (70-75 street pressure). I pumped it with an air compressor before we filled and checked it after we had the glycerin to 75 PSI, it fell to 60 PSI. Strange. I topped it off again and it seemed fine but I'm tempted to head down and check it again. We put in five low point drains per 25-2008 as it had 340 gallons of glycerin in it. We also cut 1/2" plugged ball valves at the tops of all the risers (25 of them) to purge and vent. I was surprised at how much air we got out once it was up to pressure, glad I did that. I wondered if I was eliminating some additional expansion but once we opened the water valve, we got a little gurgle of water past the check and that was it. Hopefully just a little water sneaked bye, we pumped it to 5 psi above static pressure too. I suggested the owner save the glycerin drums a if they ever had to make any changes, they'd have to dump all that glycerin. I made signs on my plotter in vinyl for the low points, fill and drain locations and also a big one stating the system had glycerin in it and took the handle off the end of line and put a sign on that too. Hello Tom, The instructions with the one I have say 2 PSI under or over (I forgot which) system pressure, I will look Monday and email. Check the local Fire Extinguisher recharge co. for Nitrogen, They use in in Dry Chemical extinguishers. The one I have has a regular valve stem on it like a tire. Fills with the same adapter as a tire (Same as the one that used to be on Badger Brand Water Extinguishers). _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
