I don't believe that would be the case. A listed fire resistant rated assembly
can have all types of wall coverings applied to it including wood paneling and
it doesn't negate the fact that the "base" assembly passed the fire resistance
test.

There is more of an issue for the interior finish rating changing when a wall
covering material that is tested and listed gets laminated to another material
that may modify the flame spread and smoke developed rating.

It may be possible, but IMHO, the change to the fire resistance rating should
not be an issue when a covering is added to it.

Subject: vinyl covered vs paper covered gypsum wall board

Back to part of the original question...

There is still a suspicion that
an otherwise listed and fire-rated gypboard wall system
may have its listing invalidated (despite retaining the
system FRR) if a plastic is laminated over the gypboard
surface of this system. I wonder if the listing is invalidated
despite the plastic laminate having the required interior finish
ratings. If it is invalidated, then I believe this would
be the place where an engineering judgment may come
into play, as Steve mentioned in a thread a few days back.

I am not trying to "make work" for some FPE.
I just want to be sure of the definitions and the paths of
the process. Your education efforts with me are
seriously appreciated.
