Also consider that when you talk about Concealed Combustible construction
there are many exceptions only one of which is as follows:

8.15.1.2.9 Concealed spaces over isolated small rooms not
exceeding 55 ft2 (5.1 m2) in area shall not require sprinkler
protection.

If you're not requiring protection over rooms 55 SF or less, this could very
well be the origin of the 55 SF.

Russell, its all political. They took a standard bathroom 5' x 8' tacked on
a few feet extra and said if you exceed 55 s.f. than it must be sprinklered.
