Depends on the AHj interp. One AHJ says C900 ok to OS&y other says below
grade, and third say 5' outside of building. Who's right only a formal from
committee will answer that. (I think the 5' outside of building is actually
a mis-application of the I codes which is where the building code /plumbing
code  ends and civil/site work begins.)

Actually that is true of DIP as well. I once spent several hours on U/L and
FM listing sites looking for class 51 or 52 listing for above ground and
never found one.

Greg, The answer may be found in the listing of the plastic pipe. I believe
c-900 is listed for underground use. and not listed for above ground or
exposed installation. CPVC is listed for underground as well as exposed use.
