(FW)>>>>>Valves that are sealed with a chain and lock are "sealed" not
>>>>>"supervised."

I believe the "seal" is a reference to the old metal bands, or plastic
ones.
Either way, this satisfies 12.3.2.2, therefore I cannot make a distinction.
NFPA 25 just asks for any of them. Seal, lock, or supervised.

Remember as well 101 references "supervised" as lock or tamper. It calls for
"Electrical" Supervision when the system is a required one per life safety.

(FW)>>>Your example reinforces the argument for ensuring systems are in
place >>>and required by law to send reports to AHJ's. The owner is asking
you an >>>engineering question, when you are there to inspect and maintain.

Louisiana gives owners/occupant 60 days to correct a yellow tag (NFPA 25
noted deficiency) and 48 hours for impairment or possible danger to life. At
which point we fill out a nice little paper and fax it in. I would like to
say, Louisiana moves VERY quickly on these.

(FW)>>>>Maybe the AHJ approved this years ago, because the reviewer and/or
>>>inspector was incompetent and if the AHJ was aware now of the
>>>unsupervised valves they may require monitoring.

These systems were installed 2007. Alas, this is the FIRST annual inspection
performed. So all the painted, improperly installed, obstructed, all fell on
me to write up. I have had several meetings explaining the how's and whys
that they ended up with this. We are doing the work, but they sure look at
you real close. Thank Goodness I have a little book with all this stuff
wrote in it. I just could not find a way to make the electrical tampers
mandatory.
