On the last automotive plant we did the tunnels under the stamping processes
were conveying scrap as you describe. There were no fines, no small
particulate. The conveyor belt was non-combustible, FM approved belting system
and there was no combustible residue on the scrap parts. There was no
hydraulic piping or other piping conveying flammable or combustible liquids or
gases in the tunnels. This was an FM project and the prescribed design
criteria was .020 over 3,000 sq. with 500 gpm for hose, heads were 212F since
the space was non-conditioned.

I'm surprised something like this wasn't spelled out on your contract drawings.

Subject: Tunnels

I am working a metal stamping facility (EH I) that has pits (under machines)
and tunnels (carrying scrap discharge from the pit). The tunnels are under
floor and covered by the floor slab, pits are open grating under machine.
Would the tunnels be considered OH II as there is only a single floor mounted
conveyor carrying scrap out to a dumpster room, and under the machines be EH I
or OH II. Apparently I'm missing the direction from 13 on this.

Thank you in advance,
