Thanks Bob, For some reason I can't open the link, not sure why? I figured it was something out of ASCE 7, just don't have a copy of it.

Ceilings that incorporate lateral force bracing are exempt from the oversize escutcheon requirement. So, if the ceiling assembly is not properly braced, the oversized escutcheon is required. Here is a link to a good tech guide that might help, http://www.nwcb.org/images/resource_files/401%20Suspension%20Systems%20for%2 0Acoustical%20Lay-in%20Ceilings(2009).pdf Bob Knight -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jim Johnston Sent: Friday, December 04, 2009 2:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Clearance for Drops Good Friday Afternoon All!! Does anybody no if there is a clearance (annular) requirement for drops thru hard lids or suspended ceilings? I had a Fire Marshal call me this morning regarding this issue and oversize escutcheons to fill the void, I am not aware of this requirement. I have looked in the IBC Chapter 16, is it in ASCE7? What do the Californians know about this? Thanks in advance, and all have a great weekend. Jim Johnston, P.E.
