I'm willing to bet the "local residents" are actually HBA members.

The code committee originally had eliminated the sprinkler requirement.
Several of us along with the President of the Fire Marshals Association
made comments regarding the need for sprinklers, the fact that the IRC
is a minimum requirement and you can't do less than the minimum and we
refuted the HBA's claims.

The review committee sent it back to the code committee for
review/re-write. We attended those meetings and got the requirement put
back in.

We stayed with it through the review committee and it stayed in even
though we were outnumbered 4-1. The HBA members were really pissed, it
was fun.

It was scheduled for a vote by the County Council on June 15 and we were
prepared. Suddenly that item was removed from the agenda and now this
article comes out along with all the comments. It's just too much of a
coincidence especially since there are HBA members on all committees and
the County Council.

I'm going to try to write a reply to the paper before I leave on
vacation tomorrow morning. This is really bad timing for me.

Besides the usual rhetoric and misinformation, the comments from local
residents.. are nothing short of .. well... I can't say. I'll get
Steve to say something inflammatory. Haha.

Anyway, it gives the reader insight into just what we are up against.
