So you've got Approved "Sammy's" and Fig 141 or 141F PHD hangers and 3/8" allthread rod, and FM and U/L test reports for all of them except maybe the rod, what did the spec. call for? Meet the spec. or send in a C.O. to "Engineer" "Calculate" "Test" or create an alternative to the EOR requirements and NFPA.
Sounds like a Career! Or at least a lot of money, even if he will give you test criteria. (I doubt he even knows what he wants.) He'll say something like Meet NFPA section xx.x.x.x, Then you have to tell him that because the components comply with NFPA U/L and FM section xx.x.x.x doesn't apply. If it's the wood structure he's worried about refer him to the Structural ERO. If like in some places the Arch. Is allowed to do wood structural and he's the one confused, tell him he needs to hire a real structural P.E. or you'll think he's working "outside his area of expertise." (A position the Arch Board for the state frowns upon.) A lot of Arch. Just keep the Eng. Fee for the Structural, if they can get the contractor to do it for free, especially on existing structures. The full listing generally has a installation description of the way the product was tested, the material it was anchored to and the spec. of that material. Should be enough to get you off the hook. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Todd Williams Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 5:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Hanger capacity Sammys are approved, but not specifically detailed in NFPA 13, which is this guy's problem.
