Per NFPA 13R (07ed) 6.8.1.5.3.6(C) you need to be at least 3ft above to not
have to build a soffit. Can install the heads on another wall and
eliminate the obstruction all together?

All of this is from NFPA-13 but the system is per NFPA-13R, doesn’t that
make a difference since the goal is life safety and not protection of
property?

How do you address the 12” wide space that the wall cabinet creates between
the top of the base cabinets and the bottom of the wall cabinets? It’s not
protected in either scenario.

The soffit would need to be flush with cabinet face 8.10.7.1.5.2 of NFPA
13 2010 ed in my opinion.

Looking for some clarification on sidewall sprinklers; We have a
residential project that has a recessed sidewall head in the kitchen wall
located 18” above a kitchen cabinet, the cabinet projects out 12” from the
wall. Is this acceptable or does a soffit need to be built above the
cabinet to bring the face of the sprinkler flush with the face of the
cabinet?
