I have never gotten a full 13 system to calc out with a 2” underground.

I agree with Todd – if it calcs out, then cool, but that is a lotta friction.
If someone was just calling up to chitty-chat on a budget idea, I would tell
them “no way”.

Todd-
All good points. Still collecting info but I will be sure to ask. Thank you.

You don’t specify what type of pipe and how long the run is. Does the type of
2” meet the requirements of NFPA 13?

Section 5.1.3 (2019) permits underground smaller than 6” if it can support
hydraulics. You would need to do the full calculation with the actual 2”
underground main included, not an assumption. 324 gpm going through 2” copper
pipe has a friction loss of .58 psi/ft. Your 10 psi assumption would include
only 17 equivalent feet of 2” copper. The velocity would be over 30 ft per
second.

You should also check with the water purveyor to see if they have a minimum
size for sprinkler system connections.

Been asked to verify a 2” underground supply will work for a NFPA-13 Dry system

Preliminary numbers I’ve ran show a system demand of 324gpm @ 46psi. That’s
assuming a 10psi loss for underground pipe (BFP is 10 as well), the loss for 2”
underground is the part I’m not real comfortable about. Any thoughts?
