I am owner of web site with ~ 15k uniq visitors/day and I can say this
is not really true.
For example this is statistics from google analytics:
1.      1024x768        42.51%  
2.      1280x1024       27.73%
3.      1280x800        10.43%
4.      1152x864        5.33%
5.      1440x900        3.10%
