I wondered if that's what was going on. I wrote to customer support; I wish they had said this! They just told me to do a factory reset, which of course didn't help at all! I have to tell you, I've used Slimserver for years but have only had a Squeezebox since last Christmas. This aspect of the architecture is a barrier to mass acceptance. Slim/Logitech has got to come up with a better way to handle the firmware thing than upgrading to a nightly build. I run FreeBSD and the nightly builds are not part of the FreeBSD ports collection; I'll have this problem until there's another point release that gets updated in Ports, or until I can learn enough Perl/shell scripting to upgrade to a nightly build myself. While I will grant you that most "mass acceptance" users will probably be using Mac or Win and just be able to do a binary upgrade, this still stinks for me! With that said if I have any success I'll see if I can outline the steps I took in the Wiki. One retort I want to make: the perception of my family is that something was wrong and/or broken.
