Pleased you found a solution that works for now.  The .mp3 streams are a
very recent and welcome development (there's a whole long history as to
why the BBC chose real format which I won't bore you with but was a
combination of the requirements of the BBC charter and being very early
adopters of streaming technology).

However, I'd definitely recommend persisting with AlienBBC.  If you're
on a fairly standard install (Windows or the more common flavours of
Linux) it should be fairly straightforward.  You can access anything
that's on Listen Again...catch up on the Archers for example.  

When problems arise, they tend to be related to installing mplayer (on
Windows, this is done for you by the install program) or firewall
issues.  Happy to talk you through it on or offline if it would help.
