It may have done so without you even noticing it. Speed Doubler had three
components:

1. A smarter/more efficient hard drive cache, but over the years Apple
kept improving theirs. By OS 8.5 or so, this became unnecessary.

2. A smarter/more efficient 68K emulator that really improved performance
of software not written specifically for the PowerPC -- that still
includes parts of the OS from all I hear.

3. A smarter/more efficient copy routine including intelligent copying
like syncing two sources and only copying changed files.

Speed Doubler broke somewhere around OS 8.5. The third ability is still
available with Copy Agent from Connectix. I've been using it since they
released it. Smart copying is one of those things Apple should build into
the OS. Until they do, Copy Agent is invaluable.

Microsoft Windows instead of Unix? How 20th century!
