Sorry for a few missing details and points of clarification, I was in haste when I put the message together:

First, it is using the video connection on the motherboard, there is not an add-on pci card running the display..

That being said, I doubt it is the connector, as the whole assembly sits in a computer workstation unit and is not accessible from the backside....so the fact that it ceased operation seems more electrical than mechanical ...ie there was no movement of cables, stepping on the connectors etc prior to the apparent failure.

Second, I don't believe it ever fully booted up....hard drive activity ceased too quickly---usually quite a bit more HD chatter, and no, it wouldn't boot up from CD....using the Norton Utilities CD with which I have booted up the machine numerous times prior to defrag operation on the HD. I hear the HD access for a few seconds, see the CD LED flicker, and then nada. If I try to boot from CD the CD LED flickers and then nada.

I did try CD boot with extensions off....and also tried HD boot with extensions off...but still the fizzle and no operation.

It also is not seen on the network, so I feel pretty confident that it is not getting operational after startup.

Kurt
