Being mostly a PC guy, I'll hazard a guess, but defer if anyone else puts in their opinion. This sounds like a classic PC Video Card failure - not that the card fails to initialize (1 long and 4 short beeps in most PC BIOS's), but that the video card never drives a monitor (making it useless). Swap with another video card.
You could verify this if it was on a network by pinging the box, and verifying that there is a response, meaning that the Max boots up.
