The other day it appeared that the monitor had died (Applevision 1710)...either power supply or the sensor that starts monitor when it gets signal from computer...as monitor never left sleep mode and power LED wasn't illuminating.
So swapped monitor out, hooked up NEC multisync unit that was not being used...and now the plot thickens....
NEC power light comes on (green) when power switch is turned on, and then immediately turns to orange (wait/sleep mode)....that's as it should be...but powering up the Starmax does not enable the monitor.
So here's the status. StarMax powers up...hard drive does its initial boot sectors (guessing by noise/activity) and then fizzles...keyboard lights don't flash (or is that a Windows thing?) and monitor never gets a signal and goes active.
Starting up from a CD is similar. Start StarMax, open CD tray, put in CD, close tray, and hold down shift and C keys. Same hard drive flurry, and then CD is accessed...it does a quick swipe or two and then back to fizzle.
So there is never any indication of startup activity other than the power LED on the StarMax and the CD LED when when CD is in tray and attempting to start from CD.
Computer will power on from keyboard power switch...so my guess is that PRAM battery still works...and it appears keyboard connection to computer is happening.
Any thoughts? Is this a motherboard issue? Video driver failure? Just plain bad luck?
