I have a friend that has done this.  I believe he eventually ended up buying
a box that would connect between the Phonograph and the computer.  I cannot
remember it outputted USB or audio (or both).  What I DO know is that
connecting the player directly to the audio in on the sound card yielded
crappy results and this box made a perfect match to the LP.  As far as
software, I believe there was a program packaged with this box but really
any audio recording/capture tool should work.

Sorry I couldn't be more vague for you :D  If you really want me to I can
ask this guy the details on said box.
