There are two IDE "channels" on the Starmax motherboard. Each can
handle one drive, at least under 9. I have heard rumblings that they
can each handle two drives under X. For the purpose of transferring
files maybe you could disconnect the cd drives temporarily to free up
another channel. That is assuming that the cd drives are IDE. I am
guessing that one is SCSI or that you have an additional IDE card
installed. If the latter is the case, you can probably find a
combination to use all the drives at once. The IDE card if extant
should also have two channels and, I think, will handle two drives per
channel ala windoze machines. You may have to jumper the drives as
slave and master or cable select to get them to coexist peacefully on
the same channel.
I was under the impression that 9.1 was available from Apple as a free
download.
Good luck
