By the time you are finished reading this you will realize that we are "hoarders". We have three computers in our household, for just my wife and me. We have a Starmax 3000/160, a G4 (silver) and a Dell laptop. The Starmax runs on OS 8.6, the G4 on OS 10.3 (Panther) and the laptop is Windows XP (my wife had to get that to be compatible with her school computers). At the moment, we have a wireless setup with the Starmax as a server using a Netgear router. We have Comcast as an ISP. All three computers have internet access with no problems (other than my wife cannot read her email from her school web address on the Starmax--no problems reading them on her laptop or the G4). I have to use the Starmax as a "server" since it is too old to receive the signal from the newer computers. Also, I wanted to switch to DSL but had the same problems.
What I would like to find out is whether or not, since the connections are good for the internet, whether or not there is a way to hook up the three computers so that the two newer ones, the G4 and the Dell laptop, can access the files on the Starmax. That would make my wife's work a lot easier since most of her school data is still on the Starmax. She uses a jump drive to carry the data from one to the other. I am thinking that I will probably have to upgrade the Starmax considerably to do this and, if too expensive, will not bother. Thanks.

Hello Jim,
I don't know if this will work for you, but I was able to do exactly what you want with my set-up. I used an airport base station (graphite), Starmax (running 9.2 and having an ethernet card), and an Ibook to accomplish this. The airport was my server, and I connected the Starmax to the base station directly through ethernet. My Ibook and Starmax could connect wirelessly through the airport station by apple talk. I would think that your lap tap and the G4 could connect through the airport to the internet, and the G4 and Starmax could connect through apple talk. I am not sure, however, if the Dell and the Starmax could communicate. Hope this helps.
