Before you start blaming the Solo, check all your other telecom equipment.
For example, do you get the Virgin FM break-through on phones on the
same line? BTW, if you're with BT, you can dial 17070 for a quiet line
test (#2 on the menu).
If it's not simply a noisy line, then the next thing I would check would
be to try the Solo in speakerphone mode so you can hear the interference,
and then remove the serial cable and see if the interference stops - if
it does, then the interference may be coming from your computer's PSU (i.e.
up the serial cable).
These are just a couple of pointers - it could be caused by a number of
things, but I would suspect that the interference is coming from the
phoneline (not from the Solo onto the phone line).
