Hello Tim

Very kind of you to try to help. Thank you.
To all readers: please accept my apologies for the length of this message.

> etc. Independant mode is OK.
That comes as a surprise to me, but it is useful information to help get mine
working I hope.

> Have you tried receving a local fax to test yours?
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Sorry. COuld you amplify?

> Otherwise it could be the phone line, hacks/patches/etc !!!
I can't rule out the phone line but I don't think its that because sending &
receiving e-mail is trouble-free, sending faxes worked fine last time I sent
one, AmiNet downloads are fast & trouble-free. I get around 42000bps
generally on the phone line after the Pace Solo does its initial line check
on dialup.

I also don't rule out "hacks/patches etc" because I have some (see below).
Again, though, as everything else hums sweetly on the system, all other
software performs without any niggles at all, I'd be surprised if it was
this. Also, the fax I had yesterday _did_ arrive in Pace Solo 'Independent
mode' and _did_ download when ST-Fax started up. I was (just) able to read
the first (about) 1cm before it broke up into white noise. I am wondering if
the prob is just in my prefs/settings of ST-Faxx.

 erm, thats all of it!

Whilst typing this, it has suddenly occurred to me that 'Executive' could be
the cause of the problem, because I seem to remember that this excellent
'scheduler' has something in the manual about not scheduling serial i/o.
I'll look into this and report what I find. The symptoms I have encountered
might fit this theory -- i.e. the first 1cm downloaded OK then white noise,
as if something had cut in to mess it up. Interesting. I'll have a look.

Finally, my _Settings_ in ST-Fax:
Fax:
   Fine resolution selected
Modem:
   Init AT&F&K3&C1&D2S0=0
   Silence compression selected
   Use class 1 not selected
   Max 9600 baud not selected
   Call monitor selected
Resend page on RTN not selected

I would be very grateful for comments and advice to get this to work.
If I discover that 'Executive' is doing it, then I'll let you know and I hope
this won't have wasted too much of everyone's time, but it will be useful
info to share, at least.

Regards to all
