how did you record it? which modem do you have? it might be due to a low-quality
microphone...

the same happens to me with an UK modem: the fact is that the modem can't
understand the italian busy tone, so it doesn't understand when the call
is over. There's not much stfax can do, but wait till the maximum time has
expired.
