first of all, are you sure you can use SANE with that HP scanner? The reason
is you can with some of them but not all of them. I found this out just
reading the USB docs in the kernel as well as info at the linuxusb site
(sorry, forget the URL at present).

That's why I bought a scanner that I knew would work on my mac and on my
Linux box.
