Hi there!
I downloaded and installed much of the KDE2 stuff and it looks
great!  Konqueror is nice and so are some other little tidbits I've had
time to check out.
The problem I'm having, though, is getting it to start from the login
screen.
When I select kde, all I get is a text screen (in the upper left-hand
corner) with the storm:~# prompt but it won't take any input from
the keyboard.
cd /etc/gdm/Sessions
ln Debian kde2
(adds kde2 as an option in GDM so that you can choose it at login)

I just did some experimentation with this.  Installed the required .deb packages manually using dpkg and added kde2 to GDM (as detailed above) and I experienced the same scenario as you.

So I commented-out my potato and hail sources, added the woody source (ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian woody main), apt-get update, apt-get install kdebase (installed all dependencies)

Logged out, logged back in selecting kde2 in GDM and KDE2 loaded nicely.

(Remember to uncomment your potato, hail sources and comment-out your woody source when you're done)

I tried starting it from tty1-ttyx and it says an X session is already
running (I knew that but I thought maybe I could fool it! :)  )
Anyway, I then go into debian or gnome or whatever and then run
kde2 on top of those (by typing "startkde" in a terminal) and it
works just fine.
But I want to be able to start it up from the login screen (I use helix
gnome otherwise).  What do I have to do to do this?  I'm not sure
where to start so any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, folks!
