The first solution worked!Not just a bummer, but a major security risk. Please do not go online as root...use Netscape as regular user for the time being.

it's supposed to.
Of course, other probs pop up like...
my reg. user cannot use konqueror (or galeon or mozilla for that
matter) for web browsing. Of course I can use netscape, but what
permission things are happening when I used apt-get to install
those others? I've tried making some changes in permissions but
none seem to work. I need to be root to access the web via
konqueror, mozilla and galeon. What a bummer!
Any ideas? Do IIn a terminal window as root: chmod o+x /path/to/filename (chmod=change mode o=others +=add x=execute permission filename=file slated for mode change)
need to add myself to another group that does have permission?
