I am on M$98, so can't read the mail to other address.
Yes, I log in at gdm prompt/window :)
Thanks for the help. I will reboot and try clicking 
on "gnome" at the gdm window.
I just can't figure out why it came up with Enlightenment 
when I first installed "rain", and not after I upgraded.

As for the xterm problem, I found (?) a solution from the 
gnome.org site. It said to change the permissions on one 
of the files...when I get back to either OS/2 or linux 
I will post the statement for anybody else.

Also thanks about the "run xfontsel" command. I wasn't 
aware of that command.
