Thanks for the help. I will reboot and try clicking
on "gnome" at the gdm window.
I just can't figure out why it came up with Enlightenment
when I first installed "rain", and not after I upgraded.
I believe that the version of GNOME that shipped with Rain still used
Enlightenment as it's default WM. Helix-GNOME 1.2 that is included
with Hail uses Sawfish as it's default WM. That probably accounts
for the discrepancy.
