Hello all,
I have a desperate call for ideas. I have a
colleague that had to let someone in his lab go
under not so good conditions. This person was the
programmer/administrator of the lab's Linux box
(Red Hat) that has ALL of the lab's research data
on it and all of the proprietary software they
use. When he left, the boss asked for the root
password and it did not work. Fearing remote
administration, they have disconnected the
ethernet cable.
THE BIG QUESTION: Is there a way to re-install
linux over the top of itself and reset the Root
account without losing the data?
What would you suggest?
Thanks,
