Hello.

The Storm installation complains about partitions on /dev/hda not ending
on cylinder boundaries. I've tried a few things, outlined below, and
can't seem to solve this problem. Other than the obvious; not using
windoze ;)

I have a fujitsu 20GB drive as hda, and I've tried to install Windoze98
(work-related, no choice) to it. I initially used linux fdisk to
partition it, leaving 4GB for windoze and chopping the rest up for two
linux distros and swap. Annoyingly, the M$ fdisk sees the first
partition as 508MB or so. So... since I'd not done the Linux
installations yet, I nuked the partition table and let M$ put in the
partition (actually I made it a little bigger in case of problems) for
windoze. Now linux fdisk reports that this partitions does not end on
cylinder boundaries, so I used fips.exe (came with SuSE) to resize the
partition down to 4GB, and linux fdisk from hdb (this storm install) to
add the other three partitions.

I now get no complaints about cylinder boundaries when running fdisk
/dev/hda from hdb. When I display the partition info, it appears as
follows:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 8322 4194256+ c Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 8323 8583 131544 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 8584 24149 7845264 83 Linux
/dev/hda4 24150 39714 7844760 83 Linux

When I now try to install Storm to the drive from CD & floppies, the
software complains that it can't use hda because partition 2 does not
end on cylinder boundaries. It then advises contacting Stormix Help.
-sigh

Anybody have any suggestions? Anybody worked around this? I've done a
quickie search of the archives (since the Storm2000 release date) and
found nothing to help.

Many thanks in advance,
Mike
