You're absolutely right. Will can do whatever he wants and so can
anyone else.
However, I don't think it's at all disrespectful to ask "why do you
want to?". I won't speak for Remi, but I'm genuinely curious - I
don't like it when smart people want to do something and I can't
understand or rationalize why!
And I do think there is room in our community to ask these kinds of
questions. Not least because having a thorough discussion of the
rationale and drivers behind an idea will help fully flesh out any
requirements and make sure the whole thing is well thought through.

Maybe its because I don't see this as 'revolutionary' but merely a
different way to approach a problem. A lot of what we do can be
considered 'fly fucking' as Remi put it, but a lot of that comes
down to personal preference and about us makeing our own choices on
how we solve our problems.
And Remi, proposing alternatives does not really helping define/
contribute to the ideas that Will put forth about REST. REST is
REST, not RPC, not SOAP. Yes I agree a lot of what REST is defined
as is already available in many forms and Stripes does do probably
about 60% of it out of the box with out issue or concern. But the
conversation was about what was needed to implement the rest of
that 40% for REST, not about whether it should be used or not or
what could be used in it's place.
If Will or whoever wants a to add a feature that doesn't interfere
with anything else and gives users more options whats the harm?
Just because some don't like it and wont use it doesn't mean it
shouldn't be available or done. The fact that someone wants the
feature and is willing to put time and effort into should enough
for anyone on this list, even if you don't agree with it,
ecspecially since we are talking about adding something that
doesn't touch any existing functionality.
I'm going to stop trying to defend this now because I don't think
there is any need to, just as there is no need to bash it either.

So I have to admit that I'm kinda with Remi on this one :o I
understand that there are folks out there who want this capability.
But for me the light bulb has not gone off - I don't get why you
would want to do this deep-down, very close to the protocol, REST
stuff.
Of course, if Will or someone else is proposing to build this as an
extension, what I have to say doesn't mean a whole lot ;) I'd
appreciate it though if someone could clearly articulate the value
proposition for this proposal. Since I know Will and others on this
list are smart folk I feel like there must be one, but I don't see
it. So far, to me, it feels a lot like the whole "web services will
revolutionize everything" buzz-talk of years gone by (well, hopefully
gone-by).
