Have you seen what Servlet 2.4/JSP 2.0 is bringing? Have you downloaded Tomcat 5.0-dev and checked out the newest features? I have over 7 years experience in VBA, VB3-6, and ASP and all I can say is "OH MY GOD!!!", this is going to blow away ASP.NET. If you think JSTL is cool, you haven't seen anything....
