I reckon it would work if all your sticks are parallel with the axis of the
earth.
Another way to describe this would be: If you were at the North or South
pole. And you stick your sticks (vertical) into the ground the sticks would
all be parallel with the axis of the earth.
Or, if you were at the equator the sticks would all be horizontal so that
the are parallel with the axis of the earth.
Of course the sticks would have to be aligned for their shadows to connect.

I am thinking about a sundial, which, to discourage vandalism, should not
