I guess I spoke too soon about the voodoo. I found the following two links:
http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/faq/vga2rgb/timings.html http://www.linuxtag.org/1998/software/howto/XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO And with the linux utility gtf, I was able to come up with a new set of timing parameters for 1600x1000: htotal=2144 hfp=104 hsyncwidth=168 vtotal=1035 vfp=1 vsyncwidth=3 vcomposite=8 pixclock=13314 xres=1600 yres=1000 hz=60 The only one I wasn't able to come up with a good new value for was vcomposite, so I left it the same as for 1680x1050. It didn't seem to be harmful, at least. Unfortunately, the screen was still painted in the upper left-hand corner or the display. So using the right timings wasn't the silver bullet I had hoped. I suppose at the very least I know how to read a modeline now. Seth Seth Galitzer wrote: > Thanks for the info. I tried the built-in 1600x1024 and it looked > pretty awful.
