Hi Wim,

aside from the obvious issue with colormask (WIP) and yes it's clearly a big

Well that would be very nice. To be honest that and lack of sound are the
only problems I have on my system that won't be fixed automatically when I
upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 10..04

Given that we have Oracle Enterprise Linux (which btw is a -free- download

Key problems with Oracle Enterprise Linux

1. I don't want an "Enterprise" product. It always finds a way to mean
"expensive" and "not everything is open".

2. I run SRSS at home on a very nice Sun Server (SunFire V20Z) with 5 Sun
Ray 1g's. It has been running for 5 years and has been incredibly reliable
and still gets faster with each Ubuntu release I install.

3. Ubuntu is ideal for our needs, it has a highly attractive user interface
and an excellent set of applications that are packaged in a superbly robust
way. Far easier to administer than any other Linux I have used (many over
the years, although not in the last few years as Ubuntu works so well).

4. We use Ubuntu on our laptops and netbooks as well, much easier to use the
same thing everywhere.

I have seen a number of folks running ubuntu but that by itself is quite a

Key is a fully open distribution that is consumer orientated with plenty of
free support available plus books etc widely available.

I have SRSS installed directly on 64 bit Ubuntu 8.04 running directly on my
SunFire V20Z. I do not have any virtualisations installed, I don't support
windows desktops anywhere on this system and don't want to.

I would like to see the wiki page detailing how to install SRSS on Ubuntu be
officially maintained with support given to gradually make it easier. While
a fully automated install would be nice (and would particularly help with
sound which I don't have working at present) I don't do upgrades very often
(generally about every 2 years), simply because it works so well (which is
why I invested in it).

Nope not interested.
