Not sure $$ would work. Would have to ptree it out to see if it's the parent shell or if utaction runs in it's own shell. $$ is the pid of the current shell only.

As far as utsession -k, I believe that requires root.

FWIW, I wouldn't do the YUV file, too much traffic. What your doing now falls under the category WWCD. ;)
